The challenge

As part of a new build project, a 200m² concrete floor base required waterproofing and insulation before the installation of floor coverings.

The contractor needed an effective damp proofing solution to suppress moisture rising from the sub-floor while creating a watertight surface for the installation of 120mm insulation boards. Once installed, the insulation boards also needed to be fully sealed to prevent air movement and maximise thermal performance.

Why Bond It

Bond It Bitumen Black Paint was selected as a cost-effective and easy-to-apply waterproofing solution for the concrete floor. Suitable for use as a damp proof membrane, it provided a reliable barrier against moisture ingress while allowing the project to progress quickly.

Bond It 75mm Aluminium Foil Tape was then chosen to seal the insulation board joints, creating a tightly sealed and fully insulated sub-base ready for the next stage of construction.

Application on site

Five 25L tins of Bond It Bitumen Black Paint were applied to the concrete floor using rollers. Two coats were applied, with the second coat laid at a right angle to the first to ensure complete coverage and a watertight finish.

The coating was then allowed to dry and cure for 24 hours before the insulation boards were installed.

Following curing, 70 sheets of 120mm Recticel insulation board were fitted across the floor area. Bond It 75mm Aluminium Foil Tape was then applied to all joints and seams, helping to eliminate unwanted air movement and maximise the insulation performance of the floor system.

The completed system delivered a watertight and fully insulated sub-base, helping to protect the floor structure while improving the overall performance of the build.
