Refurbishing Whelping Kennels with Hygienic PVC Wall Cladding Using GripBond Pro & GBX

The Challenge

Oakmere Kennels, a family-run breeding kennel in Marbury, Cheshire, wanted to refurbish two wooden whelping kennels to create a cleaner, more hygienic environment for breeding dogs and future litters.

The existing chipboard walls needed covering with hygienic PVC wall cladding to provide smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces capable of withstanding frequent cleaning while remaining safe for use around young puppies.

As the owners were carrying out the refurbishment themselves, they also required products that were simple to use while delivering professional-quality results.

Why Bond It?

Bond It GripBond Pro was selected for its exceptional instant grab performance, allowing large hygienic PVC wall panels to be bonded directly to the existing chipboard walls without additional mechanical support.

To complete the installation, GBX White was used to seal all joints between the wall panels, trims and tiled flooring. Its anti-pick performance and food-safe properties made it particularly well suited to an environment where inquisitive puppies may chew or scratch surfaces, while also providing a durable seal capable of withstanding the kennels' demanding cleaning regime.

Dec-Mate Caulk was used to fill gaps around architraves and dado rails before painting, while Bamboo Wipes helped keep the installation clean by removing fingerprints and preparing surfaces throughout the project.

Application

Twelve 8ft × 4ft hygienic PVC wall cladding panels were installed throughout the two kennels using approximately one cartridge of GB Pro adhesive per board.

Despite the size and weight of each panel, GB Pro's high initial grab held them securely in position while still allowing minor adjustments during installation. No temporary supports were required, helping to simplify and speed up the refurbishment.

Once the cladding had been installed, GBX White was applied to seal all internal joints, trims and floor edges, creating a hygienic, durable and paintable finish throughout.

The Result

The completed refurbishment has transformed the whelping kennels into bright, hygienic spaces that are easier to clean, maintain and prepare for future litters.

Thanks to the instant grab performance of GB Pro, the installation was quicker and easier than anticipated, while GBX delivered a neat, durable finish capable of standing up to the regular cleaning required within the kennels.
