Equestrian Livery Yard – Cheshire, UK

Equestrian Livery Yard – Cheshire, UK

Job size: 15 wooden stables
Products used: Coloured Wood Preserver (Dark Brown)
Completion: 2 days, dry weekend conditions

The challenge

A block of traditional wooden stables and storage buildings had been in place for over 13 years without any previous treatment or protection.

The site is exposed to varied weather conditions and, over time, the timber had lost its colour, bleached to a pale grey, and begun to dry out and crack. The timber’s waterproofing properties had also deteriorated, leaving it vulnerable to rot, decay and further weather damage.

The owners needed a solution that would restore the appearance of the stables while providing long-term protection, without strong odours or complex application.

Why Bond It

Coloured Wood Preserver was chosen as it is a water-based treatment that penetrates deeply into timber, restoring colour while protecting against rot, decay and UV damage.

Its low-odour formulation made it suitable for use around livestock, and its simple brush application allowed the work to be completed quickly over a weekend.

Application on site

Preparatory work involved cleaning the timber to remove dust, cobwebs and any algae growth.

The Preserver was then decanted into paint buckets and applied in a single coat using a variety of brush sizes to all timber facias and frames across the yard.

The product penetrated well into the weathered timber and dried quickly, leaving a consistent, attractive finish that allowed the natural grain of the wood to show through.

The result

  • Restored colour and appearance to heavily weathered timber

  • Improved water resistance and long-term durability

  • Protection against rot, decay and UV damage

  • Low-odour application suitable for use around animals

The treatment transformed the overall look of the yard while providing long-lasting protection with minimal ongoing maintenance.

Trade feedback

“We decided the yard could do with a refresh as the stables were starting to look tired. After testing a small area, we were amazed at how easy it was to apply and how much it changed the whole look of the yard. The stables now look brand new and we’ll definitely be recommending it to other livery owners.”
